"I knew it was time to sharpen up my skills with a view to propelling myself forward into something more exciting."

Rose Crabb was a marketing insights specialist on a three-year career break when she realised she needed to update her digital skills after taking some freelance work. She is now a Strategist at a small Artifical Intelligence startup and credits the course for giving her the skills and confidence to get this job.

“There was an element of dissatisfaction with what I was doing before I went on a career break. I had worked in a big corporate structure and I knew I didn’t want to go back to that.

“Some bits of freelance work came my way and that’s when I became aware of my shortcomings in terms of the digital side of things. I was used to using Microsoft programmes and suddenly felt the pressure to be digitally reliable because there was no IT department to rely on! I was also attracted to the fact the course covered LinkedIn, which I knew I needed to get myself out there.

“I wasn’t 100% sure what I wanted to do next in my career but I had a compulsion to do something more at the cutting edge. However, this was coupled with a huge lack of confidence ‘how can I be cutting edge I’m not even working!’. So I knew it was time to sharpen up my skills with a view to propelling myself forward into something more exciting.

“The course was great and I loved the face to face contact (albeit virtual) with other learners. It was really nice that it wasn’t just you working on your own going through stuff with a scrambled brain. We did a lot of our group hangouts at 8pm at night and that was the best time for everyone so it was also manageable.

“I firmly believe that that I wouldn’t have got the job I have now, or even gone for the job in the first place, if it wasn’t for the skills I built on the course. Everything that they use - Slack, Trello - it was all covered on the course. I was able to sashay in having used these tools already and feeling comfortable with them. It gave me an enormous amount of confidence.

“It was just so helpful to have had this boost from the course before jumping into the unknown.”
