Kelly Jacobson Collins is 46 and has two boys aged 8 and 6. She lost her job and was in a career rut when she chose to study with us, having lost a lot of confidence. Thankfully the Bootcamp gave her the boost she needed and she is now loving her job as a Compliance Product Director for Unruly and even managed to negotiate a higher salary.

“I lost my job as a Partnership Manager for a virtual reality start-up and realised I had been in a cycle of losing more and more confidence at work.

“I thought ‘I’m going to be working for another 20 years. I don’t want to be going into work every day feeling like I am going nowhere’ so instead of immediately finding something new I decided to take some time to rebuild my confidence.

“I chose the course because I knew my skills had dated and this was a big reason that my confidence was going backward. What attracted me to the course was that it covered the sorts of skills I could use anywhere in any job.

“It’s one less thing to worry about when you have refreshed your digital skillset. I had only used Microsoft tools before at work so the whole world of Slack, Trello and Google Suite was this other world I had never touched. Doing the course really helped me to go back into work at a young company that used best-in-case technology. Being able to muck about with these tools and use them regularly on the course before I went back into the workplace meant I knew what they were and wasn’t scared by them.

“Taking time to invest in myself and build my confidence back up by doing the course and then networking and reminding myself I could do this, helped me get the job I have now. I also ended up negotiating a better salary.

I definitely took a step back at work for the right reasons but now I’m ready to restart my career. Thankfully I now feel in a good place in my career. I’m back to where I was 6 or 7 years ago. Studying with Digital Mums helped me massively.”
