Klara Akerstrom, 39 and Mel Booth, 43, are the founders of Marketing Lab a friendly Marketing Consultancy offering practical and tailored advice and support to a diverse range of clients based in the Surrey Hills. They jointly completed our Foundation in Social Media Marketing course and are looking forward to sharing their newfound social media expertise with their clients. They are also both busy mums Klara has 2 daughters aged 7 and 9, Mel has 2 children; a boy aged 9 and a daughter aged 5.

“We were both made redundant following our second maternity leave, and having met when our eldest children started school we were determined to not let our skills and experience go to waste. We had both considered freelancing, but we knew we really wanted to work with others – and so Marketing Lab was born!

We both deliver a range of marketing campaigns for clients as well as manage the day to day running of the business. Every day is different – we may be out networking or meeting clients or beavering away in the office, working on projects ranging from helping clients to plan their marketing activities to delivering e-newsletters, events or working with freelance designers.

We have been avid followers of the Digital Mums social media channels and when we saw the Foundation in Social Media Marketing course, we felt it would provide the updates and structure of processes that we wanted to add into our offering.

We have really enjoyed the course and it has delivered what we wanted and more. We have not only learned new skills but we also now have got a new appetite for learning – it has been so inspiring!

There have been a number of benefits, some have been around the processes and tools we now use, some have been around the technicalities of the algorithms on social media and how these are now working. Also being able to explain the ‘science’ behind why we source the type of content we do.

There were some real stand out weeks, but every week contained real nuggets of learning for us. The amount of time required was exactly as described. For us, the time commitment and number of weeks was spot on, although it might take a little longer if you’re a complete novice. For us this course offered excellent value for money as we will be using the skills, we’ve learned every day.

We encourage anyone thinking about studying this course to do it! It is a great course whatever level you’re coming in at, and the Digital Mums team will support you every step of the way. It may even give you the bug for learning in the same way it has for us.”

Our next cohort for the Foundation in Social Media Marketing will be commencing on 18th May 2020. Click to enrol here or try before you buy here or sign up for more info here.
