Bridgerton Season 4: When is the sequel coming and what love story will be told?

While season 3 is still coming in 2024, season 4 of "Bridgerton" has also been confirmed. When will the sequel start and whose love story will be the focus?

“Bridgerton” fans are in for a treat: not only have they already enjoyed two seasons of the successful series, but there are also at least two more seasons to come. After a long wait, the successful Netflix series will finally continue with Bridgerton season 3 in May 2024, but fans are naturally curious to find out what happens next. Not much is known about season 4 yet, but the book templates already suggest which Bridgerton could fall in love in the next installment.

When will Bridgerton season 4 start on Netflix?

Although Netflix had already announced in 2021 that “Bridgerton” would be renewed for a fourth season, it is currently not known when the episodes will start on the streaming service. There is over a year between the first and second seasons. Due to the Hollywood strikes, the popular Netflix series was also among the postponed productions, which is why “Bridgerton” season 3 will not start on Netflix until spring 2024.

In the hope that production for the fourth sequel will also start in 2024, we can perhaps expect more new episodes in 2025 with a bit of luck. However, it is not possible to speculate more concretely on this until filming for season 4 begins.

Bridgerton Season 4: Which love story is it about?

In terms of plot, we are of course most interested in the question of which Bridgerton will fall in love in season 4. As the fourth season of the series is still in the distant future, we understandably don’t know anything concrete about the plot of the episodes. However, we can make guesses as to which of the Bridgerton siblings will seek and find love in the next season. After all, the Netflix series is based on the book series by Julia Quinn, which follows the love stories of the eight Bridgerton siblings Anthony, Benedict, Colin, Daphne, Eloise, Francesca, Gregory and Hyacinth in eight volumes. While the first two seasons stick to the order of the “Bridgerton” books and focus on the relationships of Daphne (Phoebe Dynevor) and Simon (Regé-Jean Page) in season 1 and Anthony (Jonathan Bailey) and Kate (Simone Ashley) in season 2, season 3 deviates and instead tells the story of Penelope (Nicola Coughlan) and Colin (Luke Newton), who doesn’t actually play the main role until book 4 (“Penelope’s Spicy Secret”).

Bridgerton Season 4: When is the sequel coming and what love story will be told?

This change is of course obvious given the fact that the relationship between Colin and Penelope has already been hinted at repeatedly in the first two seasons and Penelope has already played a more prominent role through her secret identity as Lady Whistledown. The free spirit and second eldest Brigderton brother Benedict (Luke Thompson), to whom Book 3 (“How to Seduce a Lord?”) is actually dedicated, appears repeatedly in the first two seasons, but more as support for his siblings and in smaller subplots.

Season 4 could therefore be dedicated to the relationship between Benedict and Sophie. However, it’s also possible that his sister Eloise (Claudia Jessie) and her love story with Sir Philip (Chris Fulton), who we’ve already seen briefly in the Netflix series, could take precedence instead. Why this would shake up the Bridgerton timeline and why Benedict’s love story should actually be told beforehand is explained in more detail below.

Possibility 1: Benedict and Sophie

As Benedict’s turn would actually have come in season 3 and we have already accompanied him on his (romantic) adventures in the art scene in previous seasons, it is reasonable to assume that season 4 will mainly be about the second eldest. According to the plot of the novel, it would then be about his relationship with Sophie Beckett. Benedict meets her at a masked ball in the book and immediately develops feelings for the mysterious stranger.

If you haven’t read the original book yet, we don’t want to give too much away at this point, especially as it is unclear how exactly the Netflix series will follow the book, given the deviations in the adaptation so far. The character of Sophie has not played a role in “Bridgerton” so far, but could initially be introduced in a smaller role in the upcoming season, similar to Sir Philip before. Speculation that the actress for Sophie has already been cast is already underway, but an official name is not yet known.

Possibility 2: Eloise and Sir Philip

Perhaps Benedict will have to wait and instead we will learn more about Eloise, who already played a prominent role in the previous seasons and had her first romantic experiences with the middle-class Theo Sharpe (Calam Lynch) in season 2. However, this entertaining romance does not appear in the fifth book called “Love, Your Eloise”.

In the novel, Eloise initially has no interest in relationships at all. This only changes when she meets Sir Philip Crane and begins a pen friendship with him. In the Netflix series, Philip travels to England in season 1 to tell Marina Thompson (Ruby Barker) the news of his brother George’s death and ask for her hand in marriage instead of George. In the original book, Eloise and Philip fall in love after Marina passes away, but have to overcome a few hurdles to find happiness together.

As the relationship between Eloise and Philip develops at almost the same time as that of Penelope and Colin and is already hinted at in the fourth novel, the couple could play a central role in season 4. However, if their love story was told before Benedict’s, a crucial plot line would have to be dropped.

This is why Benedict’s love story should be told first

As mentioned, Benedict Bridgerton finds his chosen one in the books before Colin and Eloise do. This development is also important for Eloise and Philip, as Benedict and his wife Sophie help Eloise realize her feelings for Philip. This crucial element in the relationship between the two siblings and Eloise’s attitude towards Philip would be omitted if their story were already focused on in season 4, as Benedict and Sophie would not yet have met or would have only just met and would not have been married for any length of time.

Accordingly, it would probably make the most sense to prioritize Benedict and Sophie and hint at Eloise and Philip’s love story in seasons 3 and 4, but only tell it in season 5. So it will be interesting to see what the people responsible for the Netflix series decide. Either way, season 4 with Benedict and Eloise as the two free spirits of the Bridgerton family is sure to be fun, exciting and sexy like never before.

Bridgerton Cast: Who will return in season 4?

Nothing is yet known about the cast of season 4, but we assume that all the main characters and important supporting characters from “Brigderton” will be returning. This means that the Bridgertons, the Featheringtons and their family ties as well as important characters such as Queen Charlotte (Golda Rosheuvel) and Lady Danbury (Adjoa Andoh) are likely to appear again.

Depending on which love story is focused on and in which direction the plot develops, new characters are added accordingly and former main characters become supporting characters who are perhaps only rarely seen. According to ScreenRant, Daphne actress Phoebe Dynevor will no longer be in season 3. However, as her character lives on in the “Bridgerton” world, a comeback in season 4 is not out of the question. As soon as there is more news about the fourth season, we will keep you up to date here.
