After a successful first season, “The Flight Attendant” returned with new episodes in summer 2022. Although series creator Steve Yockey was no longer able to draw on Chris Bohjalian’s novel for the second season, the result and the ratings from critics and audiences alike were extremely positive. Fans would certainly have been delighted with a third season, but now the end of the series is sealed.
The Flight Attendant: Season 3 is not coming
Shortly after the release of the second season, lead actress Cuoco cast doubt on the future of the series in an interview with People:
“Now, I’m like, ‘Well, we did two. We should probably be done.’ And I think I’ve been outnumbered with that thought,” she explains while promoting Smirnoff’s How to Summer: Grown-Up Edition campaign. “There’s definitely interest in doing a third season. I think for me, at this moment, the plane has landed.”
Though she does have a few more conciliatory words afterwards (“Some of my favorite shows on TV take some time to come back […]] I want to make sure the fans are excited and that we don’t push them too hard.”), but by now we know that time doesn’t have good news for “The Flight Attendant” either. As Deadline, among others, recently reported, the series has been canceled, so there won’t be a third season.
Fans will therefore have to make do with the material they have so far. Not a particularly good feeling, as a lot of questions now remain unanswered. What plans Grace (Mae Martin) and Dot (Cheryl Hines) were pursuing, how things could have continued with Davey (T.R. Knight) and, above all, what Cassie’s imaginary abstinence from alcohol and her suppressed relapses are all about, we will probably never find out again.
Alternatively, we can recommend “Killing Eve” or the Amazon production “Reacher“.
